Special Coaching on the Welsh National Anthem
ウェールズ国歌特別授業

7月12日にノエビアスタジアム神戸で開催されるウェールズ代表vs日本代表ラグビー戦で、ウェールズ国歌斉唱を担当する兵庫県立西宮高等学校音楽科による声楽四重唱とオーケストラの指導に、Cymru.jpファウンダーで音楽プロデューサの南出卓（ウェールズ育ち、王立ウェールズ音楽演劇大学卒）と、南出卓の朗読劇『マビノギオン』でもお馴染みのウェールズ出身のフィオン・ブラウニングが、先日高校を訪問し特別授業を行いました。

ウェールズ語の正しい発音から、単語の意味や、歌詞に秘められたウェールズ人の思いを、ウェールズとイングランドの歴史を踏まえて解説。また声楽の発生方法やオーケストラパートの細かなニュアンス等も指導しました。特別授業には来賓としてウェールズ政府日本代表のRichard Koizumi氏と、同政府上級外務担当官の宮沢佳恵氏、関西ウェールズ協会代表の廣野史子氏がご臨席されました。

Ahead of Wales and Japan Rugby test match in Noevir Stadium Kobe on 12th July, Suguru Minamide, (Founder of Cymru.jp, music producer raised in Wales) and his creative colleague Ffion Browning from Cardiff, who has worked with him in his reading drama Mabinogion, visited Hyogo Prefectural Nishinomiya High School to give special lesson to their vocal quartet and orchestra. The student chorus and the orchestra will be singing the Welsh National Anthem at the opening of the test match on Saturday 12th July in Kobe.

Suguru and Ffion gave a lesson on the Welsh pronunciations, meaning of the words, and history of Wales and the meaning of the anthem. Suguru who is a graduate of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, has also given advise on singing style, technique, and performance direction to the orchestra.

The special coaching was observed by distinguish guests, Mr. Richard Koizumi, Japan representative for the Welsh Government and Ms Kae Miyazawa, Senior Wales Affairs Officer and Chikako Hirono of Kansai St David’s Society.

The Wales Health Tech Event in the UK Pavilion at Expo Osaka
大阪・関西万博 ヘルステック＆ライフサイエンス・イベント

英ウェールズ政府は、6/24大阪・関西万博英国パビリオンでヘルステック＆ライフサイエンスを紹介するイベントを開催。当日夕刻に開催されたレセプションではウェールズ政府主席医務官イザベル・オリバー教授をはじめ、英国領事館 副総領事 兼 領事万博担当のマシュー・エリス氏らが挨拶し、多くの関係者が歓談を楽しみました。

Welsh Government organised The Wales Health Tech Event in the UK Pavilion at Expo Osaka on 24th June 2025 to showcase Health Tech & Life Sciences in Wales. In the evening, a reception was held with introduction by Professor Isabel Oliver, the Chief Medical Officer for Wales from Welsh Government, and Matthew Ellis, Deputy Consul-General & Deputy Expo Commissioner General from British Consulate-General Osaka.

A New Association for Welsh Promotion in Japan established
ウェールズ文化発信の新たな時代に向けての連盟発足

5/30日本でウェールズとその文化を広めることに長年貢献してきたダズギー会 (Cindy Masuda)、ボレダー企画 (Yuko Nakauchi)そしてCymru.jp (Suguru Minamide)が都内で集まりました。今後の日本におけるウェールズ文化発信の新たな時代に向けて熱く議論が交わされ、この特別な日を記念して連盟を発足しました。

Three representatives from Grŵp Dysgu Cymraeg (Cindy Masuda), Boreda Planning (Yuko Nakauchi) and Cymru.jp (Suguru Minamide) who have been promoting Wales and its culture in Japan for many years have gathered in Tokyo on Friday 30th May, to discuss the future of Welsh cultural promotion in Japan. A very constructive discussion were held on what needs to be changed to ensure fair and efficient ways to promote Wales and brings results. To commemorate this special day, they have established a new association.

CARDIFF UNIVERSITY ALUMNI PUB GATHERING
カーディフ大学同窓会・交流会

カーディフ大学同窓会の交流イベントが昨夜赤坂のパブで開催されました。Univesity Alumni Japan Chapterの大城昌彦さんを中心に20名を超える参加者で迎えたこの交流会には、英ウェールズ政府日本代表でカーディフ大学卒のリチャード・小泉さんもご参加されました。

Cardiff University Alumni Pub Gathering was held at a pub in Akasaka last night, organised by Mr Masahiko Oshio. There were over 20 people attended this casual gathering with a special guest Mr Richard Koizumi, the Japan Representative from the Welsh Government who is also a Cardiff University alumni.

The Wales Day at the EXPO Osaka 2025
大阪・関西万博2025ウェールズデイ

4月29日に大阪・関西万博英国パビリオンにて英国ウェールズ政府主催「ウェールズ・ディ」が開催されました。レセプションではウェールズ政府経済・エネルギー・計画担当大臣 Rebecca Evans氏による挨拶から、英国王立ウェールズ音楽演劇大学の音楽学部長Tim-Rhys Evans氏と同大学生バリトン歌手Owain Rowlands氏によるウェールズ歌曲の演奏。そしてサプライズとしてウェールズ出身の世界的バス・バリトン歌手Sir Bryn Terfel氏とハープ奏者Hannah Stone氏による日本の唱歌「故郷」のONLINEパフォーマンスにOwain Rowlands氏が日本語とウェールズ語で共演する素晴らしい演出が披露されました。

The First Wales Day was held at the UK Pavillon in the Osaka Expo on 29th April. At the reception. We were greeted by Ms Rebecca Evans MS, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning from the Welsh Government. This was followed by music performance by Dr Tim-Rhys Evans, the director of Music from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and RWCMD student Baritone Owain Rowlands. There was also a special appearance by the world renowned Welsh Bass-Baritone Sir Bryn Terfel and with a harpist Hannah Stone online, singing “Furusato” in Welsh and Japanese with Owain.

LET'S BAKE WELSH CAKES!
ウェルシュケーキをいろいろ焼こう!

St David’s Dayにちなんでダスギー会主催の「ウェルッシュケーキをいろいろ焼こう！」が都内で開催されました。今回はオーブンを使わずフライパンで気軽に作れるウェルッシュケーキを、ダスギー会メンバーで管理栄養士のCindy Masudaさんによる指導のもと、6名の参加者が伝統的なウェルッシュケーキや、抹茶風味のウェルッシュケーキ等を作りました。

Grŵp Dysgu Cymraeg organised “Let’s Bake Welsh Cakes!” as part of St David’s Day celebration in Tokyo. Cindy Masuda, a nutritionist from Grŵp Dysgu Cymraeg introduced how to bake Welsh Cakes without the use of oven, suitable for ordinary kitchen in Japan. With her selection of music by Tom Jones and British music heard in background, She introduced to us traditional Welsh Cakes and special Matcha (Japanese tea) flavoured Welsh Cakes to celebrate “Wales and Japan 2025”.

St David's Day Reception
at The British Embassy in Tokyo

駐日英国大使館公邸でウェールズ政府主催「St David’s Day Reception」が開催されました。 ウェールズ政府日本代表リチャード・コイズミさんと、ウェールズ政府本国から来日中のクレイグ・グッドウィンさんの挨拶から始まり、ウェールズ本国から来日中の「Urdd Singers」メンバーで王立ウェールズ音楽演劇大学の学生リース・アーチャーさんとエイリアナ・ジョーンズ-キャンベルさんによるウェールズ語の歌曲、同大学大学院音楽科長のゾーイ・スミス氏によるウェールズ作曲家のピアノ曲の演奏など、ウェールズの豊かな音楽文化を堪能できる素晴らしいイベントでした。

The Welsh Government held St David’s Day Special Reception as part of “Wales and Japan 2025” ahead of the St David’s Day at the British Embassy in Tokyo. Mr. Richard Koizumi, the representative of the Welsh Government in Japan and Mr. Craig Goodwin, the head of Cymru Wales Brand made an inspirational opening speech, followed by special performance by the Urdd Singers, Rhys Archer and Eriana Jones-Campbell from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. We were also welcomed by a special piano solo performance by Ms. Zoe Smith, the head of Postgraduate Program at the RWCMD, ahead of the reception.

世田谷のTea & Treatsで開催中のWELSH Tea Roomでは、ウェールズのクラフトを扱うCymryが出店中。希少なヴィンテージのウェルシュブランケットやウェールズ作家のポタリー、陶芸作家ユニット Satoko Sai ＋ Tomoko Kurahara によるウェールズのモチーフとしたプレートも販売中です。(2/17まで開催中）

A pop-up shop by Welsh Specialty Shop “Cymru” at Teas & Treats in Sendagaya, displaying Vintage Welsh Blankets and pottery until Monday 17th February. You can also try out Welsh cakes, scones and etc.

Wales Nomikai in Shibuya

国籍は問わずウェールズやカーディフに縁のあるメンバーが集まるカジュアルな飲み会、Cymru.jp主催「Wales (Cardiff) Nomikai」が渋谷で開催されました。

Welsh and Japanese Gathering “Wales (Cardiff) Nomikai (drinking Party)” in Shibuya last night, organised by cymru.jp founder and curator Suguru Minamide. People from Wales, Japan and any other nations with Welsh links gather regularly in Shibuya for this casual and friendly meal and drinks.

関西ウェールズ協会主催「パブの集まり」が梅田で開催されました。関西ウェールズ協会の会員の皆さんや王立ウェールズ音楽演劇大学の卒業生＆現在日本留学中の現役学生たちも参加した、日本とウェールズの友好を象徴するイベントでした。

The members of the Kansai St David’s Society was joined by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Alumni and a student currently studying in Osaka on an exchange program. This symbolizes well established friendship between Japanese and Welsh community in Kansai area. More events by Kansai St David’s Society will follow.

Welsh Music in Tamba

兵庫県丹波市の古民家ORGANIC HOUSEで開催されたハウスコンサートで、ウェールズそして英国の作曲家や民謡をテーマにしたピアノコンサートが開催されました。 ORGANIC HOUSEは日本の農村部の暮らしの中にある静かな美しさを滞在しながら感じることができる場として、今春から海外旅行者向けにもオープン予定で、 このコンサートは日頃からORGANIC HOUSEがお世話になっている地元の皆さんをお招きして開催されました。

A Piano Concert produced by music producer Suguru Minamide who was raised in Wales, with pianist Ayaka Yonemoto performing Welsh and British composers works at Organic House, a traditional Japanese house in Tamba, Hyogo Prefecture. This house is being converted into a guest house for foreign tourists to enjoy silent beauty in organic life style in a rural area in Japan.

駐日英国大使公邸でウェールズ政府主催「Wales and Japan 2025」キックオフ祝賀レセプションが開催され、ウェールズ政府国際外務本部局副局長フィオン・トーマス氏が開催概要を発表。 祝賀レセプションでは英国王立ウェールズ音楽演劇大学(Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama)卒業生でMusic Inc.代表の南出卓（音楽プロデューサー／Cymru.jp ファウンダー＆キュレーター） プロデュースによるウェールズ音楽の特別パフォーマンスが披露されました。

A reception was held at the British Embassy Tokyo for "Wales and Japan 2025". Ms Ffion Thomas, Deputy Director - International Relations & Overseas Network of the Welsh Government made the official announcement of "Wales And Japan 2025" campaign. It was then followed by a special concert produced by music producer Suguru Minamide, who was raised in Wales and an alumni of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Violinist Chinatsu Takeda and Pianist Ayaka Yonemoto performed traditional Welsh music and classical music composed by Welsh composer.
